Residency Match

I would be remiss if I ignored the Match last Thursday. It was a very exciting day for many applicants, including clients who found out where they would spend the next two years. A few articles capture the excitement of the day, such as They Day They Get Their Orders in the NY Times. The Chronicle of Higher Education, however, focused more on the facts and stats surrounding this years Match. Since this is a passworded site, I will provide a few highlights 15,008 of the 26,715 residency applicants were seniors in U.S. medical schools. 94% of the US med school seniors matched to a residency. 85% matched to one of their top three choices. This years match continued to reflect a preference for lifestyle specialties. For much more detailed stats and analysis, please see 2006 Match Data provided by the AAMC. If you are currently a third year student facing next years match, please check out: 4 Must-Haves in Residency Personal Statements. Write Your Way to a Residency Match , an ebook. To those of you who matched, congratulations! But dont abandon Accepted.com: Cydney Foote is working on a resource for fellowship applicants. Stay tuned.
